With issues such as “global warming” and “environmental change” never far from the headlines, global discussions and contemporary concerns, artists like Sinuhe Vega are more relevant than ever. Tying together timeless human-like representations, imagined landscapes and still lifes that build creative imagined environments become acts of beauty and activism.

His very own vision, distant from stereotyped environmental pamphlets regarding our changing fragile habitat, has more potential to make environmentalism preeminent and bring green actions to the leading edge of cultural dialogues. Of essence for a Miami artist, a city with an incredibly fragile ecosystem and where, in recent years, scientists have cautioned that Miami’s coastal communities and barrier islands could be altogether underwater in 100 years or less, as the new Atlantis.

In Journey to the Seed, Sinuhe Vega is concerned with his artistic process and the creative universe that surrounds him in the tropical Miami, where he lives and imagines his art. Thinking anew, about each narrative he creates in his paintings, drawings or three-dimensional objects, a promise of emerging ecologies and alternative sociocultural worlds.

The Fructo-Sapiens series is one of most pertinent environmental reflections of a current Miami artist who, like the scientist, has a crucial role to perform in unveiling fundamental issues of our society. Sinuhe sees things differently, and through his metaphor creates and acts on this vision, narrating the failures and successes of his surrounding context.

This promise aligns Sinuhe with what could be defined, in our current state of contemporary art developments, as the Miami school of art. Miami is a port of social convergence, an archipelago of cultures, and a place of temporary stay for others, a territory trying to define its history. In Journey to the Seed, Sinuhe Vega redefines certain post-contemporary structures and moves forward retaking a Renaissance vision of the world through which he must navigate.
